Modernisme in Barcelona: Look up! Look Down! Look Through Wrought-Iron Doors!

I knew that our first day in Barcelona was going to be spent walking around The Eixample district, looking at architecture from the Modernisme movement. So I decided to wear this multi-colored geo top from Anthro.

Here are photos from the walking tour – there were so many things to see and so little time!

PS: All photos taken with my trusty iPhone. We brought a digital 35mm but I really cannot be bothered with those things. So heavy, cumbersome, and takes forever to upload/share!

Above: Els Quatre Gats: a cafe where Picasso used to hang out.

Below: Photos of the Palau de la Música Catalana simply do not do it justice.

Above: this is now a store that sells sunglasses. They kept the old awning and preserved the modernist details. And rightly so.

Above: Gaudi’s Casa Batlló. Below: Puig i Cadafalch’s Casa Amatller.

Below: Lluís Domènech i Montaner’s Casa Lleó Morera.

Below: Parts of the sidewalk are tiled with these – Gaudi’s designs.

Below: A peek of Gaudi’s Casa Milà.
