It’s my blog’s 1st year anniversary! To celebrate, I’ll share my weekend of hardcore nesting/crafting/baking.
I had pancakes for breakfast BOTH days (a treat for me because I don’t usually eat carbs/sweets), I made my second attempt at pie (Apple), we finally decorated our Christmas tree, and I even made some awesome ornaments!

Let’s start with the pie.
Pie. So ubiquitous. Displayed between trite packages of angel food cake and boxes of glazed donuts at my local grocery store, its omnipresence lends itself an air of simplicity. Who would have known that the freaking things were so complicated to make? Did you? Because I sure didn’t. Needless to say, my first attempt at pie ended abysmally. My filling lacked depth and the crust, OH THE CRUST! An abomination. I even tried decorating it with stars hoping that a charming aesthetic would detract from the fact that the thing tasted too tart and the overworked dough was not unlike chewing on pieces of rocks. Really.
Amazingly enough, I found this helpful video from Martha Stewart and saved it for my second attempt. I followed the directions as close as I could and the results were fantastic! I popped this baby in the oven before decorating the tree and the apartment smelled so cozy!
We decorated our tree with ornaments new & old. We had bought come new ones from our travels this year and added them to the collection. Also new are these ornaments I made out of paper featuring the characters of the show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I drew their faces and put my favorite quotes at the bottom. So excited about these! Also, here’s Heimdall guarding our tree.
Wishing you all a festive holiday!
