Market Surplus

A couple of weeks ago, in the sweltering New York City humidity, Brian and I headed down to the Lower East Side for Market Surplus – the popup streetart show put together by one of my favorites – Hanksy. There were works from 10 artists who each had a wall to fill and despite the heat, it was awesome to see a lot of familiar faces. I got to meet Hanksy, Nick Walker (who was thoroughly enjoying a popsicle), and Buff Monster. Click through for more photos!

Engagement Photos in Coney Island!

So on Sunday, Brian, Bianca, Lizzie, & I ventured out to Coney Island to meet our Wedding Photographer, Nato. First of all, she is incredible. If you’re in the market or know someone who is, I highly recommend her and we haven’t even done my wedding yet!

Second of all, we couldn’t have had a more perfect day to take photographs. We went to Coney Island earlier than our meet-up time and my sis, Brian, Lizzie, & I had a leisurely lunch at Nathan’s. Two boxes worth of junk food later, we snooped around and snuck Lizzie into the Coney Art Walls area (LOL!) while walking off our huge meal. Finally, we met up with Nato and took some amazing shots around the boardwalk and the amusement park. Brian and I had a great time just pretty much being ourselves and my amazing sister helped handle Lizzie when we went on the rides for some action shots. Click through for more photos!

Graffiti + Skinny Dip London

Walked downtown for a bit before stopping by the Skinny Dip London pop-up. They always have fun conversational pieces and I wanted to see them in person. Wall art by Bradley Theodore & Shepard Fairey are a nice bonus! Click through for pics!

Jerkface Donuts

Jerkface is one of my favorite artists. One day as Brian and I were taking photographs in front of one of his walls in Bushwick, this random black SUV pulled up and the driver handed us a couple of Jerkface postcards – it was the artist himself! “Nostalgic and submersive, Jerkface is a New York-based artist most widely recognized for his playful re-imagination of pop culture iconogaphy… Unleashing the spirit of life through his curated compositions, the exhibition evokes a collective sense of joy, playfulness, and innocence.” – an excerpt from Jerkface Donuts – a relatively small exhibit presented by Over the Influence. We tried to buy some prints but they were all sold out so we bought a book instead (sad!) If you missed it, click through to see photos!

National Donut Day

My first fun-filled Summer Friday of the season coincided with National Donut Day. I went low-cal and opted to visit Jerkface’s Donut mural instead of eating the actual sweet confection. The rest of the day was spent graffiti hunting in lower Manhattan (including David Cho’s work-in-progress at the Bowery Wall) and punctuated by a stop at the ticketed All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream celebration at Bryant Park (but not before stopping by Dominique Ansel’s Bakery for the freshly made madeleines. How is a person supposed to lose weight in this damn city with all these events? ALSO BIG DEAL SIDE BAR: I MET MARTHA COOPER & TOOK A PHOTO WITH HER (OBVS) AND SHE TOOK A PHOTO OF ME (eek!!!)
