I love Freeman Alley – there's usually a good amount of work by SacSix and it's always neon bright. I did find that Chris Uphues' hearts in one corner got covered up though – sad that it's a natural part of graffiti; it's ever changing. Which is why I love walking around the city and finding new ones! Capped it off with some late lunch and prosecco at Miss Paradis – a bright and cheery spot designed by Philippe Starck! A couple of weeks ago, in the sweltering New York City humidity, Brian and I headed down to the Lower East Side for Market Surplus – the popup streetart show put together by one of my favorites – Hanksy. There were works from 10 artists who each had a wall to fill and despite the heat, it was awesome to see a lot of familiar faces. I got to meet Hanksy, Nick Walker (who was thoroughly enjoying a popsicle), and Buff Monster. Click through for more photos!
A friend of mine recommended Sant Ambroeus a couple of months ago – he said it’s one of his favorite spots for Italian food! Of course, because I have a mile-long list of places, I didn’t get around to visiting until this past weekend. I absolutely love the interior (Brian and I went to the one on Lafayette) and I spotted some work by Baron Von Fancy, Donald Robertson, & even Mr. Brainwash! The food is delicious – we got the Sant Ambroeus panini, Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, baskets upon baskets of bread (and endless refills of delicious olive oil to dip in), all accompanied with a refreshing glass of rose for me, and the Anguria cocktail for Brian. Very excited that Summer Fridays are back! My favorite thing to do after leaving work at 1 pm on Fridays is meeting up with Brian to walk around Manhattan and hunt down graffiti! So of course, when I heard about Vandal, I just HAD to go check it out.
Vandal is a restaurant that offers street food on it’s menu and street art on the walls. The entire front has two full walls of Shepard Fairey, the back has a full wall by Tristan Eaton, and all along the interior are framed artwork by the usual suspects including Space Invaders & Faile. I love shaved ice – it’s lighter than it’s cream counterpart and makes me all nostalgic because my grandma used to have one of those manual shaved ice machines. I got the Yeti Food: It’s Yeti Tracks shaved ice with bananas, waffles cones, & blueberry puree. Next time I’m getting the same thing but with mochi – it’s so good! Click through for more pics!
