Made Nice

I’m a bit sad that Summer Fridays will soon be over. My little tradition of wandering the streets of Manhattan with Brian in search of graffiti and stopping somewhere for late lunch will be replaced with a longer workday in the office. Urg.

A couple of Fridays ago, we finally got to stop by Made Nice. I first heard about it when Shepard Fairey mentioned painting a large wall for this eatery. Made Nice has a relatively small, well-curated menu from the guys behind Eleven Madison Park (if you’ve never been, you HAVE to experience it – it’s one of my favorites). Recently, the NY Times & Eater both published articles talking about how Made Nice falls short of it’s high-end “counterparts” which makes me sad because I did enjoy my meal there. I thought that the Chicken Rice bowl & the Khao Salad were both yum – I mean, a $15 salad bowl is as ubiquitous in New York as a scavenging pigeon, what do people expect? Our meal was punctuated with a cup of the Milk & Honey soft serve – it was perfect. Click through for more photos!

Vandal

Very excited that Summer Fridays are back! My favorite thing to do after leaving work at 1 pm on Fridays is meeting up with Brian to walk around Manhattan and hunt down graffiti! So of course, when I heard about Vandal, I just HAD to go check it out.

Vandal is a restaurant that offers street food on it’s menu and street art on the walls. The entire front has two full walls of Shepard Fairey, the back has a full wall by Tristan Eaton, and all along the interior are framed artwork by the usual suspects including Space Invaders & Faile. Graffiti

One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is hunting down awesome street art all over Manhattan, Brooklyn, and sometimes New Jersey. After a failed attempt at brunch, we salvaged the day by going on a self-guided mini tour of our favorite spots. Click through for photos!

Buff Monster’s Melt With Me

A couple of weekends ago, Brian & I stopped by ‘Melt With Me’, Buff Monster’s solo exhibition at the Bowery. I’m a¬†fan of his work because 1- Pink and 2- I love the melty motifs. The murals that he’s done all over lower Manhattan are awesome but the ones that really pop are in Bushwick – Brooklyn’s mini Wynwood walls.

More pics after the jump!

Life is Beautiful

Last weekend, Brian was scrolling through his Instagram feed when all of a sudden, he jolted and showed me a post: Mr Brainwash snapped a photo of his show’s soft opening! On a whim, we left the cozy confines of our apartment to check out the exhibit in Chelsea.
